Sacred Heart Edges Saint Peters 4-3 for Second Straight Win

JERSEY CITY - Powered by the doubles point, the Sacred Heart University men's tennis team earned its second straight win by narrowly defeating Saint Peters 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon. After winning two of the three doubles matches, the two teams split the singles matches 3-3 giving SHU the win and improving its record to 2-7.
Karan Narula, Francisco Del Valle Diaz, and Cory Seltman all won both their singles and doubles contests. The three each swept their opponents at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles respectively in what proved to be the difference. Earlier in the day, it was Narula and Del Valle Diaz who teamed with each other at second singles to turn in SHU's best doubles performance, as the two powered past the Peacock's second doubles duo 8-1. Seltman partnered with Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen at third singles for an 8-3 triumph.
Brian Power fell in a three set tiebreak at third singles. He won the first set 7-5 before dropping the second 6-3. His competitor ultimately pulled away for a 10-6 tiebreak win. Also losing in a close match was Justin Pagan, who battled in two close sets before ultimately coming up short 6-4, 7-5. The two were also on the losing end of a close doubles match as well, losing 8-5.
Sacred Heart will look to carry the momentum of the two match winning streak into its Northeast Conference opener on Saturday. SHU's match with Fairleigh Dickinson has been relocated to Yale University and will begin at 5 pm.
