
McAninley Scores Game-Winner in Field Hockey's 2OT 4-3 Win Over St. Francis U

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey completed its comeback to defeat St. Francis U., 4-3 in double-overtime in its home-opener at Johnson Field Friday afternoon. Colleen McAninley scored the game-winning goal, while Kayla Bedel-Franklin and Julia Chang tallied a goal apiece in the win.
The Pioneers improve to 1-2 on the season with the win, while the Red Flash fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss. SHU will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when the Pioneers take on Yale at Johnson Field at 1 p.m.

First Quarter

(4:58): Liivy Webb sent a long pass to Agustina Deharbe in the circle for the one-timer to give St. Francis a 1-0 lead

(10:34): Taylor Nesmith corralled a loose ball in front of the net and snuck it past the keeper to put the Red Flash ahead 2-0

(18:17): Kayla Bedel-Franklin scooped her own rebound and fired a shot home for the goal to cut the deficit to 2-1

(19:54): Nesmith fired a shot into the circle and Abby Romig redirected the ball into the back of the net to give St. Francis a 3-1 lead

(72:36): On a penalty corner, Marlena Koellner stopped the insert and sent it to Kruk, who shuffled the pass to Colleen McAninley for the game-winning goal.
