SHU takes down the Bison in first-ever meeting
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A pair of first-half goals was all the Sacred Heart University women's soccer team needed to hold off Howard on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers snapped a two-game losing streak as they topped the Bison, 2-1.

Junior Desiree Crawford netted her fourth goal of the season in the 27th minute. Crawford carried the ball to the top of the box and fired an uncontested shot past the Bison keeper to give SHU the lead.
Just under five minutes before the end of the first half, Jaida Hendricks came off her line to deny Azria Malloy of a breakaway goal. Freshman Kelly Medeiros came up with the rebound and capitalized on the opportunity. The goal marks the second career-goal for the rookie.
Howard found the back of the net in the second half at the 50:56 mark when Melea Earley crossed the ball to Thalia Boucher in the middle of the 18. Elyssa Kipperman was unable to hold onto it as it slid across the goal line.
Sacred Heart allowed Howard six corner kick opportunities in the first half alone, as the Bison totaled eight compared to SHU's four. However, the Pioneers outshot the Bison, 16-11.
Michelle Clarkin, Anna Ludkiewicz and Malloy led the Red & White with three shots apiece followed by freshmen Grace O'Hara and Jaci Budaj with two.
SHU's win marks the first-ever over Howard since the Bison joined the NEC as an associate member in 2020.
