Sansbury, Joughin pick up accolades as well
WINTHROP, Mass. (March 13, 2023) – An All-Atlantic Hockey Association Second Team selection a year ago, Neil Shea (Marshfield, Mass.) has capped his collegiate career with All-AHA First Team honors, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office. He was one of three members of the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team to earn plaudits in Atlantic Hockey's year-end awards, as Hunter Sansbury (Lomita, Calif.) landed on the Third Team and Marcus Joughin (Tecumseh, Ontario) was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
It was the first career AHA honor for both Sansbury and Joughin. The Atlantic Hockey awards were nominated and voted on by the league's head coaches. The AHA's major individual awards will be announced on Tuesday.
Shea finished as the team's leading scorer with 30 points, on 14 goals and 16 assists, which included a 12-14-26 mark against league opponents. He also led SHU in shots (133) and finished +1, with four power-play goals and one game-winner.
Sansbury ranked sixth in Atlantic Hockey with a +6 rating in league play, as part of a +3 mark overall for the sophomore blueliner. Sansbury tallied 7-11-18 on the season, with 57 shots, and led the red and white with 58 blocked shots.
Joughin finished fourth on the team in scoring, with 24 points on six goals and 16 assists, on just 45 shots, which was good for 17.8% shooting percentage. He tallied 7-12-19 against Atlantic Hockey opponents.
The Pios (17-17-3) posted a .500-or-better record this winter for the first time since 2019-20.
