FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 11, 2024) – Assistant coach Isiah Daubon of the of the Sacred Heart University baseball team has been invited to participate in Major League Baseball's highly-selective Diversity Pipeline Coaching Development Program this fall, in Glendale, Ariz. He will work with experienced coaches and rising MLB prospects in the Arizona Fall League, Oct. 13-20.
Daubon was one of just 12 coaches chosen to participate in the program, which operates in partnership with the Buck O'Neil Professional Scouts and Coaches Association. The Diversity Pipeline program is funded by Major League baseball with the goal of providing access, training and experience to scouts and coaches from underrepresented backgrounds.
"I am incredibly proud and excited for coach Daubon and his opportunity to work with MLB's Coaching Development Program," said head coach Pat Egan. "With only 12 coaches in the country being selected, this speaks to his knowledge of the game, his character, and his drive to be the best coach he can be. Coach Daubon has been an invaluable asset to the Pioneer baseball program over the last two-plus years and has helped develop our players and winning culture every single day."
Daubon will spend his week in the Copper State working with the Scottsdale Scorpions. The Scorpions' roster features three Baseball America Top 100 Prospects, in first baseman Bryce Eldridge (35) of the San Francisco Giants organization, shortstop Jett Williams (46) of the New York Mets, and catcher Thayron Liranzo (88) of the Detroit Tigers.
It is the third annual Coaching Development Program conducted by MLB's Diversity Pipeline, which boasts more than 70 industry hires among its past attendees.
"This opportunity will give Isiah the chance to learn from numerous MLB organizations, but also to be around and coach the next wave of MLB players, which will, in turn, help us become a better baseball program here at Sacred Heart," added Egan.
Daubon, who coaches first base on gameday for SHU, will be entering his third season as a member of Egan's staff in 2025. He was also a four-year member of the Pios as a an undergraduate, boasting a career .362 on-base percentage.
Daubon helped guide SHU to its first-ever Northeast Conference regular-season title in 2024. The Pioneers will make their debut in the Metro Atlantic Athlete Conference in 2025.
