Rouquette Cards Even Par 72
Full Leaderboard
BRYAN, Texas – The second day on the steamy course at Traditions Club was much better for the Sacred Heart Women's Golf Team.
The Pioneers shaved seven strokes off their round one total to land at 303 and move up one place among the 12 teams at the Bryan NCAA Regional hosted by Texas A&M. SHU has a two-day total of 613, which is five strokes better than Arkansas Little Rock, which enters the third and final round tomorrow in 12th.
Graduate student and 2024 NEC Player of the Year Margot Rouquette rebounded from a rough first round to fire an even-par 72. She birdied two of the first four holes and finished with three birdies on the back side in the morning. "It was one of those days where everything was going right with my long game. I had some great up and downs, but some putts were not dropping," said Rouquette, who finished with seven pars and two bogeys on the front.
The thermometer showed 91 degrees, but the actual feeling was over 100 in the sun. That didn't prevent captain Kailee Welch from having a strong day. In fact, she relished the conditions while shooting a 76.
"I had to stay focused with the heat," said Welch, who saved bogey on hole 12 after losing her drive out of bounds by sticking an approach shot to four feet and making the putt. "It was a plus that it was hotter because my ball flew further, and I didn't have to hit long shots into the greens."
The Pios veteran big three went 72-74-76. One of the trio, senior Chantal El Chaib, carded her second straight 74 and is tied for 29th place at 148.
"I'm proud of the way the team played today and hung in there under hot conditions," said Matt McGreevy, the NEC Coach of the Year for the third straight Spring. "We improved today and look to improve again tomorrow and finish on a high note."
