Four Pioneers sit inside the top 15
VERONA, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team sits in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Red Bandanna Invitational, hosted by Boston College on Sunday at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
The Pioneers are in fourth place of the 11 teams at the event after tallying a combined score of 591 (292-299), 15 strokes over par. SHU finished round one in a tie for second at +4. Hosting Boston College leads the way with a three-under 573, posting the lowest round-one and round-two scores. SHU sits one stroke out of the top three, as Toledo is third at 14 over.
Newcomer Ethan Phillips leads the Pios in a tie for third at even par 144 (68-76). The Belleville, Ontario, native's four-under 68 in round one led all players.
Pablo Lacayo is next on the leaderboard for the Pios in a tie for sixth. The junior started his season with a one-over 145 (70-75). Lacayo joined Phillips as one of just seven golfers to finish round one multiple strokes under par.
Eoin Freeman and Mike Rothberg rounded out SHU's golfers in the top 15 in T10th and 13th, respectively. Freeman finished the day with a two-over score of 146 (72-74), while Rothberg recorded a three-over 147 (75-72).
Yu Chan Ji Lim, Sho Suzuki, Robby Zyskowski III, and Alex Turlik rounded out the Pioneers' competitors today. Ji Lim (+13) is tied for 31st, Suzuki (+15) is tied for 36th, Zyskowski III (+17) is tied for 42nd, and Turlik (+23) is tied for 52nd.
