Pioneers Defeat Quinnipiac for Fifth Consecutive Win

Sacred Heart played its final road game of the regular season
HAMDEN, Conn.— John Murray had four points from three goals and one assist to lead the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team to a 12-7 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon on the road in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.
Six players had multipoint performances as the Pioneers won its fifth straight.

Sacred Heart scored four unanswered goals, including a pair from John Murray and one each from Declan Wilkie and Tucker Spencer, to quickly jump ahead 4-0 in the first quarter.
Quinnipiac got on the board early in the second frame, but Sacred Heart answered immediately as Luke Romanek won the faceoff and brought it to the cage to score the first of five straight goals for the Pioneers. SHU kept the Bobcats off the board for the remainder of the quarter as the Pios held a 9-1 lead at the half. Jake Ward and Dom Basti added a tally, and Will Moulton netted a pair during SHU's run.
The Bobcats scored the first goal out of the break, but goals from Murray and Basti extended Sacred Heart's lead, 11-2 heading into the final frame.
The Pioneers offense was a bit quieter in the fourth as Quinnipiac scored five straight goals to cut its deficit to four, 11-7. Tommy Bull scored his first career goal to push Sacred Heart ahead and secure the 12-7 final.
Graduate goalie Alex Pazienza made 12 saves for the Pios and tied for the team lead in ground balls with four. Romanek went 9-for-20 in faceoffs, and MP Thomas was 1-for-3.

Sacred Heart will be back in action in two weeks when they return home for its first of two final home games. The Pioneers will host Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 19 at noon.
