How it Happened
Like many midweek games this season, the wind was the name of the game as the two teams faced a very windy, back-and-forth day on Long Island.
Stony Brook took an early 3-0 lead in the second and third with a solo home run, RBI double and sacrifice fly.
After a quiet two innings the Pios answered with four runs in the sixth to take the advantage. First, D'Amore plated Gavin Donohue with a base hit through the left side. After Tim McGuire worked a walk, Peter Link sent home D'Amore with a single to center field. McGuire then scored on a wild pitch to tie things up. Kovalchik took advantage of the changing wind as he dropped a ball down the right field line to plate Ronan Donohue.
The Seawolves immediately answered, taking advantage of the wind with a two-run home run to regain the lead, 5-4.
The Pios plated five in the seventh to retake the momentum. Alex Ungar started the rally off with a two-run home run to left field. Not too long after, Ronan Donohue homered to right field, plating Link, D'Amore and himself for a 9-5 lead.
SHU tacked on three more in the top of the eighth with an RBI single from D'Amore and a two-run homer from Tim McGuire.
Stony Brook added two in response to close the gap to 12-7.
Things were looking up for the Pios as Joe CIlea gave the Pios an additional run in the top of the ninth for a six-run lead, but the Seawolves would not stay down. Stony Brook came out to win in the bottom of the ninth tallying seven runs to walk it off, 14-13.
