How It Happened
The Pioneers held the lead after the first period, getting a goal from Marcus Joughin at 11:48. Following an Army turnover, Felix Trudeau fed a pass to Reid Pabich, who drew a Black Knight defenseman before sending a centering pass to Joughin in the slot.
Army evened the score 11 minutes into the second period, scoring on a transition after a blocked shot in SHU's zone.
A majority of today's action came in the third period, as five of the game's seven goals were scored in the third. John Driscoll netted the period's first goal, tipping a Trudeau shot from the right boards into the top-right corner of the net at the crease to make it 2-1 SHU at 1:17.
Army needed 3:37 to answer, scoring early in a power play to make it 2-2 at 5:00.
Sacred Heart was ready with two answers in a 44-second span. Gavin Bryant scored first on a power play, firing a shot from the right goal line that deflected off an Army skate and into the back of the net.
Stephane Huard made it 4-2 Pios at 8:38, cashing in after a Black Knights skater deflected the puck away from Vitaly Levyy in the slot, where it found Huard for an easy score.
Army added one more goal to make the final 10 minutes interesting, but SHU held on to take a 4-3 victory.
Teagan Kendrick got the start in the cage today, making 22 saves to pick up the win. The first year improved to 10-7-2 this season.
