How It Happened
Quinnipiac struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Pioneers answered in the second inning.
Will Rudolph was hit by a pitch before Peter Link and Chuck Tallman each laid down bunt singles to load the bases. Rudolph scored on a wild pitch, Nathan Bowes drew a walk, and Jacob Schmutz delivered a three-run double to bring home Link, Tallman, and Bowes. Ronan Donohue followed with a double to score Schmutz and give Sacred Heart a 5–1 lead.
On the mound, Ryan Parker recorded two strikeouts in the second inning as Quinnipiac added single runs in the fourth and sixth to trim the deficit.
Sacred Heart extended the lead in the seventh when Bowes walked and Schmutz singled before Ronan Donohue reached on a fielder's choice. Schmutz later scored on a Quinnipiac error, and Will Cook followed with a triple to bring Donohue home.
The Pioneers added more insurance in the eighth. Chuck Tallman reached on an error before Jack Kidwell and Ryan Rey each singled, allowing Tallman to score on another error. Kyle Cincinnati was hit by a pitch, and Kidwell later scored on a double play.
Quinnipiac added a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Sacred Heart capped the scoring in the ninth when Cook launched a solo home run. PJ Rogan also contributed on the mound with a strikeout in the seventh as the Pioneers secured the win.
