How It Happened
Sacred Heart struck first in the opening inning when Schmutz doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Will Cook.

Boston College responded quickly, scoring a run in the first and adding another in the second to take the lead. The Eagles extended their advantage in the fourth after Peter Link doubled in the top half, but the Pioneers were unable to capitalize.

Ronan Donohue provided a spark in the sixth inning with a solo home run to keep Sacred Heart within reach. Boston College answered again in the seventh, plating two runs to push its lead further.

The Pioneers made a late push in the eighth when Ronan Donohue drew a walk and Peter Link followed with a two-run home run, but Sacred Heart could not complete the comeback.

The Pioneers travel to Smithfield, Rhode Island for a weekend series against Bryant, with the first two games on the road before returning for their home opener at Veterans Park on Sunday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
