
Pioneers Extend Win Streak to Eight with Senior Day Victory Over Canisius

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Seven different players recorded multi-point performances as the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team defeated Canisius, 18-6, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Pioneers remain undefeated at 8-0.

How It Happened:
Sacred Heart jumped out to a quick start, scoring four goals in the first five minutes of play, highlighted by a pair from Matt Pepe along with goals from Finn Hoey and John Murray. Canisius scored back-to-back goals to pull within two, but Sacred Heart held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
Murray struck early in the second quarter to make it 5-2, but the Golden Griffins answered a minute later to again cut the deficit to two. Murray completed his hat trick, Jake Carney scored twice in a row, and Tim Kiely added another as the Pioneers took a 9-3 advantage into halftime.
JJ Fox opened the second half scoring to give SHU a seven-goal lead. Canisius responded, but the Pioneers answered with goals from Jake Holmes, Fox, and Kiely to push the lead to 13-4. Canisius added one more in the third quarter, but Carney and Holmes scored back-to-back goals to give Sacred Heart a 15-5 lead heading into the fourth.
Carney and Will Moulton scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter before Canisius added one at the 5:58 mark to make it 17-6. Sacred Heart senior Aiden Fletcher then scored his first career goal on Senior Day to secure the Pioneers' 18-6 victory.
Senior goalie Craig Daria finished with 10 saves and two ground balls in the win. Sacred Heart outshot Canisius 44-38 and went 1-for-1 on man-up opportunities.
