Women's Tennis Falls to Marist

NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. — The Sacred Heart women's tennis team fell to Marist, 4-3, on the road Sunday at SportsPlex New Windsor.
The Pioneers claimed the doubles point with strong performances from Malena del Olmo and Ava Nelson at No. 2 Doubles. The point came down to No. 1 Doubles and it was Ola Irla Bartyzel & Olivia Zuba finishing with a gritty 7-6 win.
In singles, the Pioneers got strong three set victories by Ola Irla Bartyzel at No. 1 Singles and Ava Nelson at No. 2 Singles to put the Pioneers in the lead 3-1 with three matches remaining. Marist stormed back with victories at #3, #6 and lastly at #5 singles to claim the win. SHU falls to 3-2 in MAAC play and 7-8 overall on the year.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back as they return home for their next match on Thursday, April 2nd at 11:15 AM versus the rival Fairfield Stags at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
