Sacred Heart and Rider battled through four tight innings as both pitching staffs kept the game in check. On the mound, Matuschat delivered five solid innings, striking out four and keeping the Pioneers within reach early.

Rider broke the game open in the 5th inning, putting together a five-run frame to take control of the contest.

The Pioneers continued to fight late, and in the 8th inning Ronan Donohue delivered a clutch single that brought Chuck Tallman home, putting Sacred Heart back on the board.

Despite the late push, Rider came away with the 5–1 win.
