How It Happened
Fordham jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first and adding another in the second to go up 3–0.
Sacred Heart answered in the third as Martin worked a walk before Peter Link launched a home run to left field. Gavin Donohue followed immediately with a home run of his own, going back-to-back to tie the game at 3–3.
On the mound, Christian Trantino added a strikeout to help keep things even.
The Pioneers took control in the fourth with a big inning. CJ Nolan singled and stole second before Dave Yorke singled to put runners on the corners. A base hit from Wilson brought Nolan home, and an error allowed both Yorke and Wilson to score. After Bowes reached on another error and Martin drew a walk, Gavin Donohue delivered again with a double to plate another run, giving Sacred Heart a 7–3 lead.
Fordham responded with steady offense, scoring in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to regain momentum and take the lead.
Sacred Heart answered in the eighth with another surge, sparked by a leadoff walk from Martin and a second home run from Link. After Gavin Donohue and Ronan Donohue were both hit by pitches, Nolan doubled to drive in a run and later scored on a play that included a wild pitch and an error. Yorke walked and stole second, and Wilson reached on an error before Nathan Bowes delivered a two-RBI single to push the Pioneers ahead 13–10.
Hector Alejandro closed it out in the ninth, recording the final strikeout to secure the win.
