While at Douglas MacArthur High School, Tom played football and lacrosse for four years, and ran track his freshman year. His sophomore year, Tom was named All-Conference. Junior year he was named All-County. And senior year he was All-County, All-Long Island, All-State, All-Metro and team captain. He won the Tharp Award for Best Player in Nassau County and was Piner runner-up for Best Linebacker. He played in the Outback Steakhouse Challenge for the Long Island team, the Empower Upstate vs. Downstate and the Nassua All-Stars vs. Suffolk All-Star games.
