Pioneers Drop 4-3 Thriller to Drexel

Brian Power and Cory Seltman each won twice, as the Sacred Heart men's tennis team was narrowly edged by Drexel in a back and forth 4-3 decision at Yale on Saturday evening.
After sweeping doubles, SHU (3-3) needed only one more point after Power and Seltman each won their singles matches. Power did so in comeback fashion at first singles, taking sets two and three, 6-3, 7-5 after falling 4-6 in the first. Seltman took his sixth singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, as the two are now both in the top three on the team with six and seven wins, respectively.
Unfortunately, Sacred Heart was on the losing end of two three set thrillers. Derek Chapman fought back from a 4-6 loss in the first set of his third singles match to force a decisive set with a 6-3 triumph in the second. He and his competitor battled to a winner take all tiebreak, with Drexel (6-1) eventually picking up the point. Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen took the first set at fifth singles before falling 1-6 in the second to send the match to a third set. Again it was the Dragons prevailing in the narrowest of margins, 6-4.
Power and Matt Dean paired at first doubles for their second consecutive victory to move over .500 to 6-5 on the year. Also winning their second in a row together was Pilote and Seltman, as the two are now an even 6-6 this season. Chapman and Karan Narula completed the doubles sweep in their first ever match together.
Sacred Heart is right back in action on Sunday at 2 pm, hosting Colgate at Yale.
