NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Mathieu Pilote-Schraenen picked up a second straight win on Saturday night, winning his team-best 12th match of the season in a 6-1 loss to Stony Brook played at Yale.
Also winning for the second time in a row for Sacred Heart was the third doubles team of Derek Chapman and Karan Narula, who paired to defeat their opponents 6-4. The Pioneers nearly picked up the doubles point, but the first and second teams of Matt Dean and Brian Power and Cory Seltman and Pilote were narrowly defeated by scores of 7-5 and 6-4, respectively.
SHU was on the opposite ends of close set loses that could have changed the match had they gone the Pioneers way. Power and Chapman each lost a tiebreak in their first and third singles matches, respectively. At second singles, Dean dropped a 7-5 set, while Narula fell in two close sets, 6-4, 6-4, at position number four.
Sacred Heart's match scheduled for later in the night against Niagara was cancelled and will not be made up. The Pioneers will next play on Tuesday at Quinnipiac at 3 pm.
