
Strong Doubles Start Not Enough as Army Tops Pios

Sacred Heart earned the doubles point
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team wrapped up its New York trip with a 4–1 loss to host Army on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers picked up the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. At No. 1 doubles, Frederick McRae and Tomacz Garbacz earned a 6–2 victory over Tucker Culpepper and Marcus Sebastian. Connor Liona and Brennan Hart-Nova followed with a 6–3 win at No. 2 doubles against Alan Ton and Preston Achter to secure the opening point.
In singles play, Sacred Heart dropped straight-set decisions at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 positions, allowing Army to take a 3–1 lead. The Pioneers showed resilience in the middle of the lineup, forcing third sets at both No. 3 singles with Paul Goncalves and No. 5 singles with Connor Liona. Army ultimately clinched the match at No. 6 singles, where Preston Achter rallied from a set down to defeat Milan Karajovic, 6–3, in the deciding set.
The Pioneers return to action on January 30th when they face Fordham University at 8:15 p.m. at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
