Fust tallied SHU’s goal in the first
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team suffered a 5-1 loss to Bentley on Saturday evening, splitting the weekend series against the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) leaders in Waltham, Mass.
Records:
SHU: 15-12-3, 11-8-3 AHA
Bentley: 17-9-5, 15-4-4 AHA
How It Happened
The Pioneers picked up right where they left off last night, needing just 30 seconds to find the game's first goal. Off the game's second faceoff, the puck found Mikey Adamson at the point where he fired a shot that found Ray Fust's stick in the slot before soaring into the back of the net.
Unfortunately for the Pios, the Falcons scored for the first time this weekend in the first period. Bentley made it 1-1 7:00 minutes into the game, where the score would stand heading into the second.
The second period was all Falcons, as Bentley built a 4-1 lead in the frame by scoring all three goals.
The third period did not feature much action, outside of a sequence late in the frame. With about three minutes left, the Falcons wrapped a shot around that looked close to a goal but was not whistled, while SHU came down and scored on the next possession. But Bentley challenged, which led to their goal standing and SHU's being waved off.
Both Teagan Kendrick and Ajeet Gundarah saw time in the net for the Pios tonight. Kendrick stated and made 19 saves in two periods, while Gundarah made eight stops in his first appearance since Nov. 28.
