MANCHESTER, Conn. — The Sacred Heart Women's Tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to UConn on Thursday afternoon, with multiple tightly contested matches halted after the Huskies secured the clinching point.
Doubles play set a competitive tone to open the match. The Pioneers battled in close contests at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles but came up just short in both positions. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Malena del Olmo and Ava Nelson were locked in a 6-6 deadlock when play was halted following UConn's clinch.
In singles action, Sacred Heart fell in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to decide the team outcome. At No. 5 singles, Kiah James was in the midst of a strong performance, leading 6-4, 3-3 when the match was stopped.
The Pioneers host Mount St Mary's on Saturday February 21st as they open up conference play at the Tennis Club of Trumbull at 5:45 PM.
