FAIRFIELD, CT (March 25, 2003) - Sophomore JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) buried two of her four goals just three minutes into the game to pace the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team to a 15-2 win over Stony Brook University Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers built a 10-2 halftime lead and held the Seawolves scoreless in the second half to pick up their second straight win and improve to 3-2 on the year.
After scoring the game's first two goals, Montesarchio added her third at 16:50 and picked-up her fourth at 10:40 to give her four of the Pioneer's six goals. Junior Christina Macchia (Carle Place, NY) had a game-high and season-high five points on the day, finding the back of the net three times and assisting on two others. Fellow junior Jackie Reichert (Nesconset, NY) was also lights out for SHU, scoring four times on her own in the win.
Senior Michelle Bruckner (Carle Place, NY) notched three points on a goal and two assists while sophomore Mary Romano (Baldwin, NY) played a solid all-around game, scoring a goal, an assist and picking-up nine ground balls. Scoring their first goals of the 2003 season where junior Jeanne Carroll (East Rockaway, NY) and freshman Emily Tully (South Windsor, CT). In net for Sacred Heart, junior Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) made six saves while allowing just two goals to pick up her third win on the year.
For Stony Brook, now 3-3 on the season, freshman Danielle Werner had a goal and an assist while fellow freshman Jill Gridley scored the other Seawolve goal. Freshman Gina DeNezzo saw most of the action in goal for SBU, making 12 saves.
Sacred Heart will return to action this Friday, March 28th, playing host to Lehigh at 4 pm.
