Defensive standouts and rookie goalkeeper highlight postseason honors
EDISON, N.J. - The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team saw three student-athletes—Brooke Gyllenhaal, Madelyn Breitbeil, and Madalynn Eder-Linell—earn All-MAAC honors, as announced by the league Friday morning.
Gyllenhaal led the way as a First Team selection, while Breitbeil collected Second Team recognition. Eder-Linell rounded out the group with a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
Gyllenhall earns her first All-MAAC honor following a dominant spring campaign on the defensive end for the Pioneers. The senior started all 15 games and established herself as one of the conference's most disruptive forces, ranking second in the MAAC in ground balls per game (3.07) and fourth in caused turnovers per game (1.93). Gyllenhaal paced the Pioneers with 29 caused turnovers and 46 ground balls, while adding seven draw controls. She recorded eight games with multiple caused turnovers, including a season-high five against Iona and Quinnipiac, and even contributed offensively with goals in back-to-back contests at Gardner-Webb and Monmouth.
Breitbeil's All-MAAC recognition marks the second all-conference honor of her career. A consistent presence in the lineup, Breitbeil started all 11 games she appeared in and ranked second on the team with 25 caused turnovers. She posted eight games with two or more caused turnovers, highlighted by a season-best four against Merrimack and Rider. Breitbeil also totaled seven draw controls, including a five-draw performance against Coastal Carolina.
Eder-Linell recorded an impressive debut season in goal for the Pioneers. Appearing in 11 games with nine starts, she ranked third in the conference with a 9.66 goals-against average and fourth with a .444 save percentage. Eder-Linell totaled 68 saves on the year, including a season-high 10 against Fairfield, while also contributing 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
In addition to their success on the field, the Pioneers were equally impressive in the classroom, with 20 student-athletes earning MAAC All-Academic Team honors. Representing a wide range of disciplines—from nursing and biology to finance, marketing, and graphic design—Sacred Heart's commitment to excellence continues to shine both athletically and academically. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
