Women's Lacrosse Drops Regular Season Finale to Quinnipiac

SHU celebrated its nine seniors before the game
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – On Senior Day, senior attacker Maggie Araneo led the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team with five points in a 16-9 loss to Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play at Campus Field on Saturday afternoon. Before the game, SHU recognized the nine Pioneers on the team who will be graduating this spring.

How it Happened:
The Pioneers seized the early momentum, scoring two goals within the first 4:28. Quinnipiac responded at the nine-minute mark, but Sacred Heart quickly reclaimed a two-goal margin at 3-1. Maintaining the lead at 4-3 with 3:23 left in the first quarter, SHU then saw the Bobcats score twice in the closing minute, shifting the advantage to Quinnipiac, 5-4, heading into the second period.
Continuing the back-and-forth, Sacred Heart tied the game at 5-5 just after the second quarter began, thanks to Araneo's second goal. Quinnipiac then netted the next two, but Ryann Kearns' goal pulled the Pioneers within one, 7-6. Once again, a late goal by the Bobcats in the final second of the quarter sent Quinnipiac into halftime ahead, 8-6.
The momentum shifted further in the third quarter, as Quinnipiac controlled the period by scoring all four goals to extend its lead to 12-6 heading into the final frame.
Both teams traded goals in the fourth, with the Pios getting within six goals on multiple occasions. Araneo scored a goal and had an assist in the frame to pace SHU with five points on three goals and two assists. Araneo assisted a Nadine Galiano goal at 46 seconds to set the final score at 16-9 QU.
Araneo finishes the regular season with 96 career goals and 134 points in her final game at Campus Field.
