Sacred Heart uses strong fourth quarter to secure MAAC road victory
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Behind a five-goal performance from Jamie Tanner, the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team earned a 6-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) road victory over Rider on Saturday afternoon at Ben Cohen Field. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 5-9 overall and 4-3 in MAAC play, while the Broncs fall to 1-15 and 0-7 on the year.
Tanner led the offensive effort with a game-high five goals, while Maggie Araneo added a goal and an assist. In net, Madalynn Eder-Linell turned in a strong performance with eight saves to anchor the defensive unit. Madalyn Breitbeil also added to the defensive unit, causing a team-high four turnovers.

How it Happened:
Sacred Heart jumped out to a strong start, controlling the opening draw and building a 2-0 lead behind a pair of early goals from Tanner, including a man-up tally off a feed from Araneo. The Pioneers' defense held Rider scoreless in the first quarter, with Eder-Linell making key saves to preserve the advantage.
Rider responded in the second quarter, finding the back of the net twice to even the score at 2-2 heading into halftime, capitalizing on offensive opportunities while the Pioneers were held scoreless despite multiple shot attempts.
Out of the break, Tanner completed her hat trick early in the third quarter to regain the lead for Sacred Heart, but Rider answered midway through the frame to tie the game once again at 3-3 entering the final 15 minutes.
The Pioneers took control in the fourth quarter, erupting for three straight goals. Tanner netted her fourth of the game to spark the run, followed by Araneo and another from Tanner to extend the lead to 6-3.
Rider added a late goal in the final seconds, but Sacred Heart's defense held firm down the stretch to secure the 6-4 MAAC victory.
