Women's Lacrosse Falls at New Hampshire

DURHAM, NH - Kristin Blanchette recorded a career-high six points with four goals and two assists to propel the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday afternoon's 21-3 non-conference victory against Sacred Heart University at Memorial Field.
UNH, which extended its school-record home winning streak to 10 games, evened its record at 2-2. SHU lost its second consecutive game to fall to 3-2.
Five other Wildcats scored multiple goals, as Jess Burnap, Laura Dosdall and Moira Talbot recorded three tallies each, and Jill Albee, Ashley Crook and Katie Leland all scored twice. Renee Nemmers and Alexa Webster both netted one goal.
UNH starting goalkeeper Stacey Plati earned the win by stopping two of four shots on goal in the first half. Ashley Milley was also credited with two saves and allowed one goal. SHU goalie Maggie Brauer made 10 saves.
Blanchette, whose four goals matched a personal best, gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with free position goals at 9:29 and 14:36. The teams then combined for five goals in a four-minute span as UNH extended its lead to 5-2. Brianna Bubceck pulled the Pioneers within one goal, 2-1, at 15:07 but Burnap responded 20 seconds later to reestablish a two-goal lead, 3-1. Maureen Hohn trimmed the deficit to one goal, 3-2, at 17:38 but Burnap and Nemmers scored 59 seconds apart - at 18:02 and 19:01, respectively - to extend UNH's lead to 5-2 and the Pioneers never got closer the rest of the way.
Talbot and Crook, both with their first career points, and Blanchette scored to increase the margin to 8-2 at the half.
The Wildcats took control of the game with an early second-half spurt. Albee's first strike of the game gave the 'Cats a 9-2 lead at 31:50, then Talbot netted consecutive goals within 53 seconds to make it an 11-2 cushion. The Wildcats took a double-digit lead, 12-2, on Leland's tally at 34:15 and the margin was never in single figures again.
UNH's advantage ballooned to 17-2 before Katie Salamonre (goal, assist) netted Sacred Heart's third goal of the game with 13:10 remaining.
UNH, which entered the game just 1-for-13 on free position shots this season, converted 4 of 9 free position shots into goals vs. the Pioneers. New Hampshire recorded a 45-10 shot advantage, as well as a 25-17 edge in ground balls and 17-9 edge in draw controls.
