The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse tea had three student-athletes honored with All-Northeast Conference accolades at the tournament banquet Thursday night. Junior Jesslyn Joseph (Bolton, Mass.) and sophomore Caitlin Delaney (Cherry Hill, N.J.) were both named First-Team All-NEC, while rookie Averi Farhat (Hollis, N.H.) was named to the All-Rookie Team.
It is the second postseason honor for Delaney, who was named to the All-Rookie Team last spring. She led the team in scoring with 43 points and was tied for the team lead with 34 goals. Delaney, a Cherry Hill East High School graduate, started all 16 games for the Pioneers, racking up team-best totals in ground balls, 41, and caused turnovers, 36, and ranked second on the team with 30 draw controls. She was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week on February 16 after causing four turnovers, picking up four ground balls and recording two draw controls in the season opener,
Joseph earns her first postseason NEC award after equaling the team-lead with 34 goals. She was named the NEC Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a dozen goals in the final weekend of play, as she brought her point total to 37 for the year. The Nashoba Regional High School graduate led the Pioneers with 38 draw controls to go along with 18 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
Farhat tallied 26 points during her first season, with her 21 goals ranking second amongst NEC rookies. She was named the NEC Rookie of the Week on March 30 after scoring six points, including the game-winning tally in the victory over Manhattan. A graduate of Bishop Guertin High School, Farhat tallied seven goals and an assist in the last three games, with hat tricks versus Wagner and Robert Morris. She added 12 ground balls, nine draw controls and eight caused turnovers.
The trio helped the Pioneers to a 7-9 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the NEC, including back-to-back wins in the final weekend. The effort placed SHU in a three-way tie for the final NEC Tournament spot with LIU Brooklyn and Robert Morris. The Colonials win Sunday over the Blackbirds, coupled with a goals against total of 17 in games versus SHU and LIU gave Robert Morris the final berth via the tiebreaker.
