
Holy Cross Drops SHU Women's LAX, 11-7

WORCESTER, MA (March 19, 2003) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team fell at the hands of the Holy Cross College, 11-7, Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 1-2 on the season while HC improved to 4-3. Sophomore JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) picked up four goals in the loss.
Holy Cross got out of the gates early, scoring the first five goals of the game in the opening 14:41 minutes of play. Senior Justine Reeber scored three of her team-high four goals during the 5-0 run. The Crusaders built a 7-3 lead into the half after two SHU goals in the last 1:11 of play.
The Pioneers came out in the second half firing on all cylinders, putting three more goals on the board, led by Montesarchio who nailed two of her four on the run. Sacred Heart cut the lead to 7-6 at the 13:37 mark of the second stanza before HC junior Katie Britt ended the Pioneer run with her second goal of the afternoon. Holy Cross put three more on the board to close it out and seal the victory.
Katie Malangone notched five saves for HC while SHU's Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) made 13 saves in net.
Sacred Heart returns to action this Sunday, March 23rd as they host Niagara University at 10 am
