
SHU Women's LAX Trounces St. Francis (PA), 15-1, in NEC Opener

FAIRFIELD, CT (March 30, 2003) - Sacred Heart University senior Jenn Girouard (South Windsor, CT) scored the first of her three goals just 21 seconds into the game and the Pioneers never looked back, pounding St. Francis (PA) to the tune of 15-1 Sunday afternoon. The win closes out a four-game homestand for Sacred Heart and improves their record to 4-3 and 1-0 in the Northeast Conference.
Five Pioneers found the back of the net multiple times on Sunday, led by senior Michelle Bruckner (Carle Place, NY) who picked up four goals on the afternoon to go with two assists for a game-high six points. Girouard added an assist to her three goals in the win. Sophomore Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY) turned in a solid all around game, scoring twice and handing out a season-high four assists.
Also posting two goals on the afternoon where sophomores JoAnn Monteschario (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Mary Romano (Baldwin, NY) and junior Christina Macchia (Carle Place, NY). Macchia also added three assists in the win.
In the nets for Sacred Heart, junior Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) and freshman Candice Celebre (Lake Grove, NY) each played a half, facing just three shots on the day.
For St. Francis (PA), now 0-3 and 0-2 in the NEC, Lauren Smith notched the lone goal on an assist from Marissa Lynn.
Sacred Heart returns to action this Tuesday, April 1st, as they travel to instate opponent, Central Connecticut, for a 7:30 pm start.
