
Michelle Bruckner and JoAnn Montesarchio Earn All-NEC Honors

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 30, 2003) - Senior Michelle Bruckner (Carle Place, NY) and sophomore JoAnn Montesarchio (Cordlandt Manor, NY) were named to the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse All-Conference team announced Wednesday afternoon. Bruckner earned first team honors after being a second team pick in 2001 while Montesarchio took home second team honors for the first time in her young career.
Bruckner and Montesarchio teamed all season to provide the Pioneers with one of the most potent one-two scoring punches in the league. Bruckner led the team in scoring this season, tallying a career-high 39 goals to go with seven assists for 46 points. She earned NEC Player-of-the-Week honors for her five-goal performance in the Pioneers 15-13 win over Monmouth earlier this season. In her four years at Sacred Heart, the Carl Place, NY native recorded an astounding 121 goals. Add to that 22 career assists, and the senior midfielder ends her career with 143 points. She also has 105 ground ball pick-ups and 91 draw controls to her credit.
Montesarchio finished second to Bruckner in scoring for the second straight season. The sophomore midfielder ended the year with 31 goals and nine assists for 40 points. She led the team with 29 draw controls and finished second in ground balls, picking up 52 on the year. As a freshman, Montesarchio tallied 24 goals and nine assists with 21 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and 20 draw controls. In her two years at Sacred Heart, the Cortlandt Manor, NY native has 55 goals, 18 assists, and 73 points.
The duo helped pace Sacred Heart in 2003 to a 10-6 overall record and 5-3 in NEC play. Their 10 wins ties the school record for most wins in a season. The feat was also accomplished during the 1996 and 2001 seasons.
