
SHU Women's Lacrosse Tops St. Francis, 11-2, for First NEC Win

STATE COLLEGE, PA (March 26, 2004) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team got two goals apiece from seniors Christina Macchia (Carle Place, NY) and Jackie Reichert (Nesconset, NY), junior Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY) and freshman Maureen Hohn (Lutherville, MD) en route to an 11-2 win over St. Francis (PA) in Northeast Conference action Friday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the NEC with the win.
The Pioneers dominated play early on, scoring just 52 seconds into play off the stick of Macchia. SHU ran the score to 5-0 just over 18 minutes in on goals by Reichert, Hohn and back-to-back scores by Smith. The Red Flash got on the board with consecutive scores from Katy Green and Kimberly Baur cutting the lead to 5-2.
SHU tacked one more on before the break on freshman Heather Gureckis's (Nashua, NH) first goal of the season. The Pioneers held the Red Flash scoreless for the entire second half while putting five more scores on the board for the final 11-2 tally. In addition to her two first half goals, Smith assisted on four of SHU's five goals in the second half to finish with six points in the win.
Picking up their first collegiate goals where freshman Gureckis, Nicole Macri (Baldwin, NY) and Heather McKillop (Nashua, NH). Macri also added an assist for a two point afternoon. Junior Maggie Brauer (Blauvelt, NY) registered six saves in earning her third victory of the year.
The Pioneers continue their road trip this Sunday, March 28th with a stop at Lehigh University for a 1:00 pm start
