SHU's Reichert and Montesarchio Post Four Goals Each in 11-7 win over Marist

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 10, 2004) - Senior Jackie Reichert (Nesconset, NY) and junior JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) scored four goals apiece as the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team posted an 11-7 win over visiting Marist College Saturday morning. The Pioneers close the non-conference portion of their schedule with a win and improve to 8-4 overall on the year. The Red Foxes fall to 2-6 on the season.
Junior Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY) got the Pioneers on the board first scoring her team-leading 25th goal of the year two minutes into play. The Red Foxes responded less than two minutes later on a goal by Tara Mullins. SHU raised their lead to 3-1 on Montesarchio and Reichert's first tally of the day. Marist refused to go away and knotted the score at three all on back to back scores by Christine Connell and Lauren Serge.
SHU came back with three unanswered goals over 10 minutes to hold a 6-3 lead with 5:27 on the clock. Serge tacked on two more just before the half to slice the deficit to 6-5 at the break. Pioneers goalie, junior Maggie Brauer (Blauvelt, NY), played the first half, recording six saves.
Sacred Heart's lead grew to 9-6 at the 18 minute mark of the second half on Reichert's third and back-to-back scores off the stick of Montesarchio. Marist would cut it to two, 9-7, as Connell scored just 27 seconds later, but that would be as close as the Red Foxes would get.
The duo of Reichert and Montesarchio fired two more in before the final horn to produce the final 11-7 score. Senior Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) made six saves in goal in the second half to help preserve the win. Freshman Maureen Hohn (Lutherville, MD) added a goal to go with five draw controls in the win.
The Pioneers are back on the road this Thursday when the travel to instate rival Quinnipiac for a 4 pm start.
