
Quinnipiac Scores Six Unanswered in the Second Half to Drop Sacred Heart, 12-9

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 16, 2004) - The Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team scored six unanswered goals in the second half to erase a three goal Sacred Heart lead and come away with a 12-9 win in Northeast Conference action Friday afternoon. QU's Jennifer Larson scored four goals with an assist to help the Bobcats improve to 6-7 overall and 4-1 in the NEC. The Pioneers fall to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in league play with the loss.
The two teams battled through an even played first half with Quinnipiac scoring first on Amy Willis' 26th of the year just under two minutes into play. Sacred Heart stormed back and took a 3-1 advantage on goals by Meghan Tucker (Carle Place, NY), Jackie Reichert (Nesconset, NY) and Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY). The two teams then traded two goals apiece and the Pioneers held a 5-3 lead with 10:49 to play. The Bobcats clawed to within one on Willis' second goal of the day and tied at 5-5 with 36 seconds to play in the half.
The Pioneers grabbed control of play in the second half, building a three goal lead, 8-5, on Reichert, Smith and Tucker's second goals of the day. Quinnipiac began its march back at the 12:58 mark as Kristen Holzer scored on a feed from Willis to ignite the Bobcat Rally. Larson cut it one on her fourth goal of the afternoon and Willis made the comeback complete notching her third on a return feed from Holzer to knot it at 8-8.
QU kept the heat on, scoring four more times before the Pioneers could find any answer to build an insurmountable 12-8 lead. SHU finally stopped the bleeding on Reichert's third score of the day with 32 ticks on the clock, proving too late for a Pioneer rally.
Reichert and Smith each had three points in the loss; Smith's coming on two goals and an assist. Senior Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) made nine saves in goal for the Pioneers.
Quinnipiac goalkeeper Kaitlin Kenny mad 13 saves in the cage for the Bobcats to help secure the win.
SHU returns to the field this Sunday, April 18th to face Central Connecticut at 12 noon on Senior Day at Campus Field.
