
Pioneer Women's Lacrosse Post 13-2 Win over CCSU on Senior Day

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 18, 2004) - Sacred Heart University senior women's lacrosse players Christina Macchia (Carle Place, NY), Meghan Tucker (Carle Place, NY) and Jeanne Carroll (East Rockaway, NY) all scored goals in their final home appearances as the Pioneers posted a 13-2 win over Central Connecticut on "Senior Day" Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the Northeast Conference with the win.
Macchia finished with two goals while both Tucker and Carroll had a goal and an assist apiece. Fellow senior Jackie Reichert (Nesconset, NY) picked-up an assist while senior goalkeeper Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) and senior defender Ashley Cotter (Sandwich, MA) led a Pioneer defense that shut out Central in the first half and allowed just two goals overall. Lavoie made 10 saves in the cage for the Pioneers to earn her fifth win of the season while Cotter picked-up two ground balls.
The junior tandem of Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY) and JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) led the way offensively combining for seven points. Smith tallied four scores in the win, all coming in the second half while Montesarchio netted three. Freshman Maureen Hohn picked-up four points of her own on the afternoon, scoring twice and assisting on two other SHU goals. Hohn also won four draws, caused two turnovers and picked-up three ground balls.
For CCSU, now 2-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference, sophomores Amy Clark and Danielle Adams had the lone Blue Devil scores with freshman Kathryn Hughes picking up an assist. Freshman Amanda Zabel made 10 saves in goal for Central.
The Pioneers close out the regular season with two road games, at Wagner, Friday April 23rd and at Monmouth, Sunday, April 25th.
