FAIRFIELD, CT (April 30, 2004) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team placed four players on the All-Northeast Conference first or second team announced by league officials Thursday afternoon. Leading the way with her first ever all-conference nod was junior defender Lindsay Travis (Mahopac, NY) who garnered All-NEC First Team honors. Fellow juniors Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY) and JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) along with senior Amy Lavoie (Nashua, NH) earned second team honors.
Travis spearheaded a defense that posted the only shutout by an NEC program this season on its way to leading the league in goals against average (7.55 gaa). Travis scooped up 34 ground balls while also adding 23 turnovers caused and 13 draw controls.
Montesarchio claims back-to-back all-NEC second team accolades after she tallied 33 points (24 g/9 a) to rank second on the Pioneers in scoring this season. Smith was the Pioneers top offensive weapon, scoring 43 points (35 g/8 a). Lavoie was solid in the net for SHU this year, compiling the league's best goals against average (7.57 gaa), also ranking third among NCAA leaders.
The Pioneers will take on top-seeded Mount St. Mary's in the opening round of the NEC Tournament this Friday, April 30th at 1:00 pm.
