FAIRFIELD, CT (February 24, 2005) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team was picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll announced Wednesday afternoon. Mount St. Mary's was tabbed to repeat as conference champions followed by Monmouth in second and Quinnipiac in third.
Sacred Heart returns five seniors to this year's team led by JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Cortlandt Manor) and Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), last season's two-top scorers. Smith (36g, 8a) and Montesarchio (24g, 9a) will pace the offense. Also back to spearhead a defense that led the NEC in goals against average (7.45) last season is senior Lindsay Travis (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac). Joining Travis on defense is senior Jamie Pettit (Baldwin, NY) with senior Maggie Brauer (Blauvelt, NY) taking over in goal.
The 2005 season gets underway on Sunday, February 27th when the Pioneers host the University of Vermont at 1:00 pm.
