
Women's Lacrosse Beaches Dolphins, 15-14

FAIRFIELD, CT - Senior JoAnn Montesarchio scored five goals, while sophomore Brianna Bubeck added four to help the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team erase an early deficit and come back to defeat visiting Lemoyne University 15-14 on Sunday afternoon.
LeMoyne took an early lead by scoring four goals in the opening minutes of the half. Sophomore Amanda Keegan scored the first two goals for the Dolphins, while Whitney Vecchio and Meghan Burgoon scored the next two to give Lemoyne the early cushion.
The Pioneers, now 3-0, roared back and scored eight of the next ten goals. Montesarchio scored three during the run for the Pioneers, while Bubeck's goal with 12:45 left in the first half put SHU ahead 7-6. Freshman Katie Salamone and Montesarchio added goals down the stretch for the Pioneers to send them into the half with a 9-6 lead.
The Dolphins, 0-1, got the first two goals of the second stanza by freshman Beth Sierotnik and Whitney Vecchio to crawl back within one at 9-8. Again the Pioneers rallied and a pair of goals by Bubeck and one by Montesarchio gave the Pioneers a 12-10 advantage with 19:07 remaining.
Lemoyne tied the game at 12-12 with 15:54 left on a pair of goals by senior Ashlyn Maguire. Sacred Heart scored the next three goals , the last by sophomore Heather Gureckis (Nashua, NH) to take a 15-12 lead. Keegan and Kylie Rosette would each score again for the Dolphins, but Lemoyne was unable to gain control of the ball again in the final three minutes and the Pioneers held on for the victory.
Junior Candice Celebre picked up the win in goal for the Pioneers, playing the second half and recording three saves. Maggie Brauer had four saves for SHU in the first half. Sophomore Kelly Comley took the loss for the Dolphins, allowing six goals and making four saves in the second half.
SHU returns to action on Tuesday, March 15th when they host Stony Brook at 3:00 pm.
