
SHU Women's Lax Take Home Weekly Awards

FAIRFIELD, CT (March 7, 2005) - Sacred Heart senior JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and freshman Katie Salamone (Baltimore, MD) were named Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week announced Monday afternoon. Sophomore Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) was named to the WomensLacrosse.com Honor Roll for her play this past week.
Montesarchio led the Pioneers to two tough wins this week and kept SHU undefeated to start the year at 3-0. The senior midfielder scored twice in the Pioneers' come from behind 7-6 win at Holy Cross on Thursday. Down 5-1 at the half, Montesarchio scored to open the half and lead SHU on a five-goal jaunt to climb back into the game. She then buried the game winner with 1:00 remaining in the contest. She followed that up with a five-goal effort in Sunday's win over LeMoyne at home. Montesarchio scored four goals in the first half as SHU held a 9-6 lead at the break. She has ten goals to her credit in the early going this season and scored three times with an assist in the Pioneers' 12-7 win over Vermont in their season opener.
Salamone scored four goals this week, including a three-goal effort in Sunday's 15-14 win over LeMoyne. She also tallied one score in the Holy Cross game during the Pioneers' five goal run to start the second half that erased a 5-1 Crusader lead. Salamone is third on the team in scoring with seven points on six goals and one assist.
Bubeck scored twice in the come from behind win at Holy Cross and then put up four goals in the win over LeMoyne. She opened the season with a two goal, two-assist effort against Vermont in her first ever game in a Pioneer uniform. Bubeck is second on the team in scoring with 10 points after three games. She has eight goals and two assists on the year.
