
SHU Women's Lacrosse Falls at Monmouth, 15-5

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ (April 17, 2005) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team dropped it's third-straight Northeast Conference game Sunday afternoon, fall at Monmouth University, 15-5. The Hawks extended their school-record winning streak to 10 games and earned a spot in the 2005 NEC Tournament with the win while the Pioneers fall to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Monmouth jumped out to an early lead when Katie Degen scored an unassisted goal 4:07 into the first half. The Hawks would tack on six more goals to build a 7-0 lead with 7:05 left in the first half. Sophomore Heather Gureckis (Nashua, NH) finally stopped the bleeding for the Pioneers, scoring her first of the day with 4:47 left.
After another Monmouth goal, Gureckis struck again at 1:58, but a Hawk goal just 47 seconds later gave them a commanding 9-2 lead at the half. Monmouth out shot the Pioneers 16-9 in the half and converted both of their free position attempts.
Monmouth rattled off the first four goals of the second half to extend the lead to 13-2 with 18:04 remaining in the contest. Sacred Heart went on a 3-0 surge led by seniors Natalie Smith (Wantagh, NY) and JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and sophomore Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY). before the Hawks closed the game with a pair of tallies.
The Hawks were led by Carolyn Raveia with four goals and two assists. Freshman Megan Nutter added three goals and two assists and Degen and Jeanette Stott each tallied two goals and two assists.
Monmouth out shot Sacred Heart 31-19 and owned a 16-6 edge in draw controls.
Sacred Heart closes out the regular season next weekend with a pair of home games against St. Francis (PA) on Friday, April 22nd and Robert Morris on Sunday, April 24th.
