
Pioneer Women's Lacrosse Post 10-1 Win over Visiting St. Francis

FAIRFIELD, CT (April 22, 2005) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team posted a 10-1 win over St. Francis (PA) University Friday afternoon in Fairfield, CT. The Pioneers got three points apiece from sophomore Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) and freshman Katie Salamone (Baltimore, MD) as they improve to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash fall to 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the league with the loss.
The Pioneers got off to a quick start just 23 seconds in to the game, winning the opening draw and senior JoAnn Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) finished a pass from junior Emily Tully (South Windsor, CT). Tully put SHU up 2-0 on her seventh goal of the year off a feed from Bubeck. Salamone scored her first goal of the day at 22:42 to make it 3-0.
The Red Flash scored their lone goal of the afternoon as Rachel Farrow weaved her way through Pioneer defense and finished unassisted to pull within 3-1. Sacred Heart closed the half with a 3-0 run on scored by Bubeck, freshman Alyssa Harris (Kings Park, NY) and sophomore Heather McKillop (Nashua, NH).
Sacred Heart tacked on four more in the second half as Salamone scored her second of the game followed by Bubeck, Montesarchio and sophomore Heather Gureckis (Nashua, NH). On the day, the Pioneers out shot St. Francis 27-7while causing 22 turnovers. The Red Flash struggled on the clear, completing only eight of 19.
SHU will close out the regular season on Sunday afternoon, hosting Robert Morris on Senior Day. Game time is set for 12 noon with Sacred Heart honoring their five graduating seniors before the game.
