FAIRFIELD, CT (April 3, 2006) - Junior women's lacrosse player Brainna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) was named the Sacred Heart / Enterprise Rent-A-Car Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 27th through April 2nd.
Bubeck guided the Pioneers to their second-straight NEC win last week with a five goal outing in a 17-8 win at Wagner College. Bubeck scored four of her five goals in the second half as SHU outscored the Seahawks 12-4 in the second stanza to blow open a 5-4 game at the half. Bubeck was key to three second half Pioneer runs, the first started when she buried an unassisted goal just seven seconds out of the break to lead SHU on four-goal jaunt that put them up 9-4. After a Wagner goal ended it, she buried two on a five goal span that started at the 22:32 mark and ended at 17:23 to all but put the game away at 14-5. Bubeck notched her fifth and final goal at the 12 minute mark as SHU scored twice more in the final minutes while holding Wagner scoreless to seal the win. Bubeck is second on the team in scoring at 18 points on the year, 17 goals and four assists.
Bubeck and the Pioneers host Mount St. Mary's on Friday and Monmouth on Sunday.
