SHU Home to Host the Mount.. The Pioneer women's lacrosse team returns home after a 2-2 road trip to host Mount St. Mary's in Northeast Conference action Friday afternoon. SHU is coming off a 17-8 win over Wagner last time out that has them sitting at 2-0 in the NEC, tied for first in the standings. The Mount split a pair of league games last weekend, falling to Quinnipiac 12-11 and beating CCSU, 19-10, both at home.
The Series... The Mount leads the all-time series, 8-1. Sacred Heart's lone win in the series came during the 2002 season, 13-8. The series dates back to the 1998 season with Mount also winning the only playoff meeting, 6-5, during the 2004 NEC Tournament. The Mountaineers posted a 12-4 win last season over SHU at home.

Last Meeting with the Mount... Katie Mason scored four goals to lead Mount St. Mary's past Sacred Heart 12-4 in Emmitsburg on April 3, 2005. Mason tied a career high with four markers and also added two assists. Heather Gureckis paced the Pioneers with two markers in the loss. Katie Salamone tallied a goal and an assist and JoAnn Montesarchio also found the twine in the contest. Mount St. Mary's jumped out to the early advantage and withstood a Sacred Heart comeback attempt in the first half to go on for the victory in a re-match of the 2004 NEC semifinals. The Mount scored the first four goals of the game to grab a 4-0 advantage with 22:19 remaining in the first half. The Pioneers cut the deficit in half after a pair of goals in a span of 22 seconds. But Mount St. Mary's answered and built a three-goal lead into halftime. The Mountaineers made sure there would be no comeback in this meeting by holding Sacred Heart off the scoreboard in the second half and posting six goals for a 12-4 win.
Scouting the Mountaineers... The Mount is 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the NEC under first-year head coach Denise Wescott. The Mountaineers split a pair of league games last weekend at home, falling 12-11 to Quinnipiac and beating Central Connecticut 19-10. The Mount is led by Casey Paris who has 31 points on 21 goals and 10 assists. Kirby Day leads the team with 22 goals and Ellie Keener is in double digits for goals with 15. Valerie Brown has played the majority of time in goal and sports a 12.28 goals against average.
Last Time Out... Sacred Heart scored 12 times in the second half to blow open a 5-4 game at the half as the Pioneers picked up their second NEC win of the year, 17-8, at Wagner. Junior Brianna Bubeck led the Pioneer charge, scoring four of her season-high five goals in the second half. Wagner struck first and built themselves a 3-1 lead 10 minutes through the first quarter. The Pioneers answered with a three goal jaunt after almost eight minutes of scoreless action. The second half was all Pioneers as the SHU opened with three goals in the first minute and three seconds of action. The Pioneers rattled off five-straight in a five-minute span starting at 22:32 and ending with a Bubeck marker at 17:23 to put the Pioneers up nine, 14-5. The Seahawks tried to claw back in with three-straight goals, but Sacred Heart scored the final three of the game and shut out Wagner over the final 12 minutes to seal the victory. Senior Candice Celebre was stellar in goal, making 14 saves, including eight in the first half, to earn the victory in the cage. The Pioneers made the most of their 17 second half shots, scoring on 12. Wagner converted just 2 of 10 free position shots.
History... This is the Pioneer's eighth year of competition in the Northeast Conference. Sacred Heart has qualified for the NEC Tournament four times and posts a 73-63 Division I record. The Pioneers have posted 10 wins in each of the last three years and have not had a losing season since 1998.
