
Bubeck and Montesarchio Named NEC Players of the Week

FARIFIELD, CT (May 2, 2006) - Sacred Heart junior Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) and freshman Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) were named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week announced Tuesday afternoon.
Bubeck tallied five points on four goals and one assist to help lead Sacred Heart to a 19-10 win over Central Connecticut State last week, helping the Pioneers to their best-ever NEC finish since joining the league in 1999 with a 7-1 conference mark and second place standing. Bubeck scored three times in the first half and then added another goal in the second half to tie her season-high of four goals in a game. She also added four draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball in the win. On the season, the junior midfielder has tallied 38 points, 30 goals, eight assists, 10 free position goals, 21 ground balls, 32 draw wins and 11 caused turnovers.
Montesarchio earns her first NEC Rookie of the Week honor after scoring a career-high seven points in a 19-10 victory over CCSU last week. In tallying her career-high seven points, she also posted single-game bests in goals with four and assists with three. Montesarchio had a hand in six of the Pioneers' 12 first half goals, netting four goals and assisting on two. The rookie midfielder also added two ground balls and two draw controls in the win. Montesarchio closes the regular season tied for second on the team with 33 points on 21 goals and a team-high 12 assists. The Cortlandt Manor, NY native has also posted 31 grounders, 22 draw wins and 11 caused turnovers this season.
