For the second-straight year, the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team participated in the Sikorsky SWIM Across the Sound Cancer & Diabetes Run/Walk. The event, in its second year, celebrates the lives and memories of those touched by cancer and diabetes. The event was run over the scenic two or four mile route beginning and ending at Captain's Cove in Bridgeport and winding through St. Mary's by the Sea.
The team helped to raise money to support SWIM Across the Sound's 35 cancer education, screening, prevention and support programs. This year, for the first time, the SWIM will create a program to help those struggling with Diabetes.
"The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team is proud to be a part of the annual Swim Across the Sound Run/Walk," stated head coach Laura Cook. "Our student-athletes have a responsibility that reaches beyond classrooms and lacrosse fields, and community service is a fundamental part of that responsibility. We look forward to continuing our involvement in the community each year."
