
SHU's Montesarchio and Ingrilli Win NEC Awards

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 31, 2008) - Sacred Heart's Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, CT) and Jessica Ingrilli (Wantagh, NY) took home a pair of Northeast Conference Player of the Week awards as the Pioneers extneded their winning streak to five-straight and improved to 4-0 in the league. Montesarchio took home the NEC Player of the Week award while Ingrilli nabbed the league's Rookie of the Week honor.
Montesarchio scored six goals and 12 assists in a 3-0 week for the first place Pioneers, who are off to their best-ever NEC start at 4-0. To open the week, she scored once, dished out a career-high seven assists, collected two ground balls and registered two caused turnovers in a 17-10 win over visiting Lafayette on Tuesday. Her seven assists were the most by an NEC player since Long Island's Chrissie Carleton had seven against Siena on April 19, 2006. Two days later, Montesarchio tallied four goals and an assist in a 15-9 victory at Robert Morris, then closed out her week with a goal, four helpers and a ground ball as the Pioneers downed Saint Francis (PA), 18-2, on Sunday. A Cortlandt Manor, NY product, she cracked the 100-point mark for her career (108) last week and also established school records for single-season (24) and career assists (55). Montesarchio currently ranks second in the NEC in assists (1.92/game) and eighth in points (2.92/game).
Ingrilli tallied four goals and an assist for the Pioneers, who went 3-0 last week and improved to 4-0 in NEC play. The Wantagh, NY native also recorded four ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Ingrilli scored twice and posted four ground balls and a caused turnover in a 17-10 triumph over Lafayette, then notched two goals, an assist, four draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover as the Pioneers beat Robert Morris, 15-9. Ingrilli's 25 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers rank her second on the Pioneers. She has also tallied ten goals and two assists.
