Sacred Heart University head women's lacrosse coach Laura Cook announced the Pioneers 2015 schedule. The campaign is slated for 16 regular season games, with nine games on Campus Field and seven Northeast Conference games.
"Our schedule is going to provide us some early tests that will benefit us as we head into our conference slate in the month of April," said Cook. "We made some great progress during fall ball and I am excited to see this group take the field in February and continue to improve as we strive to reach our goal of returning to the NEC Tournament."
The Pioneers open the year on the road, travelling to crosstown rival Fairfield on February 14 and at Iona on February 18. The home opener comes on February 21 when Holy Cross visits Campus Field to begin a stretch of five home games in seven outings. SHU hosts UMass-Lowell on March 1 and then travels to Manhattan on March 4, before returning home to host Binghamton on March 7 and Vermont on March 14. The squad's final non-conference road game is March 21 at LaSalle and the Pioneers close out the non-conference portion of the schedule a week later versus St. Mary's.
Sacred Heart plays four of its seven NEC games at home in the pursuit of a berth in the conference championship, which will be hosted by the regular season champion, May 1-3. The top four teams in the regular season standings qualify for the postseason, with the tournament champion advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
The Pioneers begin the league schedule on the road, travelling to LIU-Brooklyn on April 3. The next two games are at home, versus Bryant on April 10 and Central Connecticut on April 12. The following weekend SHU will play at Mount St. Mary's on Friday and Wagner on Sunday. The final weekend of the regular season will be spent on Campus Field, with Robert Morris, April 24, and Saint Francis U, on April 26.
