Delaney Tallies Pair In Women's Lacrosse Loss At LaSalle

The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-5 non-conference decision at LaSalle University on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-5 on the year, while the Explorers improve to 4-3.
It was a defensive contest for most of the first-half without a tally until more than 16:00 had elapsed. Katelyn Fay found the back of the net for the Explores, man-up with 13:27 to play before intermission. LaSalle built a 3-0 lead with another Las tally at the 8:59 mark and Anna Kelly at 8:32.
Caitlin Delaney put the Pioneers on the board with 5:41 to play before the half, scoring unassisted to make it 3-1. Jessyln Joseph brought SHU within a goal 2:06 later netting a pass from Kylie Calandra, but Caitlyn Brostrand answered with 1:46 to play in the half to make the lead 4-2. Emily Corrice scored with six ticks left in the first-half, and SHU entered the break trailing 4-3.
LaSalle struck for two early goals to open the second-half, with Brostrand and Fay scoring to make the Explorer lead 6-3 4:00 into the period. Erin Coutts tallied a goal for the Pioneers a minute later to make it 6-4, but SHU would get no closer. LaSalle scored nine unanswered goals from the 17:52 mark through a goal from Kelly Furman with 2:22 to play to build a 15-4 advantage. Delaney would score the final goal of the game with 55 seconds remaining for the final tally.
Delaney had a pair of goals, a game-high five caused turnovers and a team-best four ground balls in the win. Aver Farhat finished with three of the Pioneers eight draw controls, while Liana Doyle joined Calandra with assists on the day.
Kelly Keenan played the entire game in goal for SHU, making a season-best 16 saves and recording a ground ball. Gabby Antonelli earned the win for LaSalle with three save, and four goals allowed in 55:30 of action. Lucy Loughlin made a save and allowed a goal in her 4:30 of play.
Brostrand finished with a game-high five points, four goals, while Fay netted four goals and Alee Ilgenfritz handed out four assists. Antonelli had a game-high seven ground balls, while Erin McCabe recorded a game-high four draw controls.
The Pioneers travel to Manhattan for a 3 p.m. game on Wednesday, before returning home on March 28 to host St. Mary's (CA).
