Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse player Averi Farhat (Hollis, N.H.) was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday for her role in the Pioneers two victories last week. It marks Farhat's first weekly honor and the Pioneers second of the season.
A graduate of Bishop Guertin Farhat tallied six points as SHU defeated Manhattan, 9-8, and St. Mary's 15-3 to round out non-conference play. At Manhattan on Wednesday she netted the game-winning tally with eight seconds left in the game. Her second goal of that game, Farhat capped a 5-0 Pioneer run over the final minutes of play. In the home win over St. Mary's she completed her first career hat-trick and added an assist.
Farhat has started eight of the Pioneers nine games this spring and finished non-conference play with 12 points, tied for third on the team. Her 11 goals is good for second on the squad. She has five draw controls, five caused turnovers and four ground balls as well this spring.
The Pioneers are 4-5 on the year and return to action on Friday in the NEC opener at LIU Brooklyn. SHU has four remaining home games, all league contests, beginning April 10 versus Bryant.
