
Women's Lacrosse Picked Fifth In NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team was picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Wednesday.
The Pioneers were one of four teams that tied for fourth in the NEC last season at 3-4, with each of their four losses by just one goal. SHU was 7-9 overall in 2015. Three Pioneers were named All-NEC last year. Senior Jesslyn Joseph was an All-NEC First Team selection, leading the Pioneers with 34 goals and 41 points. Junior Caitlin Delaney was also an All-NEC First Team pick with 34 goals. Sophomore Averi Farhat was selected to the All-Rookie Team after posting 21 goals and 26 points.
Two-time defending champions Bryant was chosen as the preseason favorite with five first-place votes. Last season's runner-up, Wagner, was picked second with three first-place votes. Mount St. Mary's is third, followed by Robert Morris, SHU, Central Connecticut, LIU Brooklyn, and Saint Francis U.
The Pioneers open the 2016 season on Sunday at Marist.
